Indoor Auto Racing TicketsEvery January, the three-race Indoor Auto Racing Championship Fueled by VP Racing Fuel springs to life in the PPL Center in Allentown, Penn. The series then moves on to the Gambler’s Classic at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. — historic 1938 birthplace of the event — and completes the five multicity rounds at the New York State Fairgrounds Exposition Center in Syracuse, N.Y. The series, presented by Len Sammons Motorsports Productions and promoted by VP Racing Fuel, features the best racing talent from the Northeastern US and Canada in the TQ Midget, Slingshot and Champ Kart classes. TQ Midgets are very small, high power-to-weight-ratio cars. They’re 800-pound rolling rockets, constructed with a tube frame and a 750cc max motorcycle engine running on 112-octane VP Racing Fuel. The Slingshots and low-sitting Champ Karts are primarily run by ambitious younger racers competing at a top speed of 60 mph. Get your Indoor Auto Racing tickets at StubHub.
How do drivers qualify for Indoor Auto Racing series events? Each class features a nighttime main event for that city’s round, running only 24 cars out of the whole field. Drivers start qualifying with transponder-timed runs. The best lap times move on to Heat Races that night with qualifiers then going directly to the Main Event. Drivers that don’t qualify in the Heat Race get one more shot in the B-Main run. If they don’t pass the B-Main, they wrap up for the night with no points added to the Indoor Auto Racing Championship series.
Who becomes the Indoor Auto Racing Series champion?Points are what count. Points are earned in the time trials and heat races and accumulate throughout the series, making each round important. While wins are the best way to get points, the racer with the highest overall point-score, collected from consistent high-level finishes across all rounds in the series, becomes the Indoor Auto Racing Series Champion. The 2019 season ended with Erick Randolph the record four-time champion going into 2020 defending his crown against two-time Gambler’s Classic winner Andy Jankowiak[9A] and other top talents like Matt Janisch, Tim Buckwalter and Briggs Danner.
What is the Indoor Auto Racing schedule? The Allentown Indoor Race takes place in early January at the PPL Center, the Atlantic City Indoor Midget Car Race in early February at the Boardwalk Hall, the East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals in late February at the Cure Insurance Arenain Trenton, N.J., and the Syracuse Indoor Race in mid-March at the new York State Fairgrounds Exposition Center.
What is the Indoor Auto Racing experience like? The events are held indoors with full concert and sporting event facility amenities. Seating is arena-style, overlooking a concrete oval track with added soda syrup for traction. Lower seats typically sit behind jersey barriers and chain-link catch fences to protect against tumbling or spinning cars. At the Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall, amphitheater-style seats sit up from the track, allowing a direct view over the railings at the action below. Drivers are fierce competitors without much time to set up passes through the turns on an arena-sized indoor concrete oval. Their lightweight cars reach high speeds but can easily end up in spinouts, pileups, or even flips or end-over-end tumbles, crashing into the barriers. After the yellow flag, cars line up in growling and revving anticipation before they set off again at a high-pitched roar to make another fight through the field. The East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals at the Cure Insurance Arena are also a great alternative event, featuring a dirt track and drifting inside and outside passes on the turns. Racing fans with free Fan Fest tickets at Allentown have pre-race access to the arena floor to get autographs and up-close looks at the cars.
