Illinois State Fairgrounds History
The Illinois State Fairgrounds has been one of the biggest attractions in Springfield, Illinois for over a century and a half. Ever since the venue first opened in 1853 many of the biggest events in Illinois including the Illinois State Fair and has served as the oldest auto racing speedway in the United States since holding its first race in 1910. The fairgrounds have gone on to host numerous different styles of auto racing and the annual Illinois State Fair brings in visitors from all over the state to take part in the summer tradition's festivities.

The Illinois State Fairgrounds is one of the best outdoor venues you're going to find in the Midwest, and you have the chance to check it out for yourself this summer. There are some amazing acts ready to hit the stage there, and you can soak it all up when you get some tickets to enjoy a show. Fall Out Boy will be in town this August for what is sure to be a riveting show. This band is known for their spirited live shows, and you can check them out in person at the Illinois State Fairgrounds this summer. Later in the month Styx will be on hand to play all of their biggest hits. Styx was a huge success in the 1980s, and they're still at it, touring and drawing big crowds composed of their many fans. Hank Williams Jr. will also perform at the Illinois State Fairgrounds this year. Williams Jr. is a very well-known musician that is sure to have this place rocking in the latter portion of August. There is plenty on the way at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, and you're certainly going to want to peruse the entire schedule for this venue so you don't risk missing a top-notch show this year.

The Illinois State Fair brings in well over 700,000 guests each year and there is ample space for visitors to amble about looking for the most exciting attractions, games, vendors, and food stands. The grandstands and the race track offer seating for some of the exciting races and concerts held there and also allow guests to roam around looking for just the right spot to spread out and enjoy the action.
One of the most famous attractions at the fair is the life sized butter cow, which is as you may have guessed, a cow statue made entirely out of butter. The attraction was described in great detail in an article by David Foster Wallace which was featured in his compilation A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again.
