Gogo Penguin Biography - A Creative Trio Of Musical Human Machines

Originating from Manchester, UK, GoGo Penguin quickly rose to fame within the world of modern jazz and fusion. The band took an express train to success, with debut LP Fanfares gaining them a widespread following and plenty of media attention. Although founder Grant Russell left to pursue other projects in 2012, double bassist Nick Blacka joined the line-up and has made a significant impact on the group's sound. He combines effortlessly with drummer Rob Turner and pianist Chris Illingworth, and second album v2.0 proved a triumph upon its 2014 release.

Some GGP tracks can be directly linked to traditional jazz, while others come from an opposite end of the musical spectrum. Chopped drum breaks, electronic ambience, mesmerising piano melodies and ear-twisting tempo changes are stapes from these three maestros, but the complicated rhythms are surprisingly accessible to newcomers to jazz.
