Genesis Invitational TicketsThe Genesis Invitational, formerly known as the Genesis Open, is an invitation-only tournament with a long, rich history. The tournament debuted at the Los Angeles Country Club in 1926. The Los Angeles Open, as it was then called, rotated between several different golf courses in the area. However, it found a permanent home at The Riviera Country Club in 1973. It is the home of many historic golf moments, including the debut of Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. In 2006, the Tiger Woods Foundation took over as the organizer and administrator of the tournament. Past winners have included Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Fred Wampler, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, Nick Faldo, Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson. Macdonald Smith and Lloyd Mangrum have both won the tournament on four separate occasions, more than anyone else. If you want to catch your favorite players on tour, then you can purchase Genesis Invitational tickets at StubHub, a leading source for live events.
When does the Genesis Invitational take place? The 2020 Genesis Invitational game takes place between February 10th and 16th. A slate of events and activities are scheduled to begin before the main tournament. The pro-am and collegiate showcases both take place on Monday, February 10. Professional practice rounds take place on Tuesday, but the course will be closed to the public. It will reopen for another round of pro-am play on Wednesday. The main tournament starts on Thursday and concludes on Sunday.
How many players participate in the Genesis Invitational? The tournament was given an invitational status by the PGA for the 2020 season. That means the organizers can invite the players they want rather than relying on rankings or qualifying rounds to select a field. Because of its invitational status, the tournament features a reduced field of 120 golfers, including commitments from the current top five golfers in the world — Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm — plus Tiger Woods. The finalized field should be announced sometime before the start of the tournament. Players may withdraw or quit at any time. The winner of the tournament receives a three-year PGA Tour exemption.
Who won the last Genesis Invitational?J.B. Holmes was the winner of the 2019 Genesis Open with a score of 14 under par. Thanks to an eight-under first round, Holmes managed to hold off runner-up Justin Thomas (13 under) and third-place finisher Si Woo Kim (12 under) on the final days. Marc Leishman and Rory McIlroy tied for fourth place at 11 under.
What is the Genesis Invitational schedule like? The Riviera Country Club is an 18-hole par 71 course that stretches for more than 7,000 yards. Public grandstands can be found on the driving range and at the 9th, 10th, 14th and 17th holes. Youth programs, viewing zones and golf exhibitions are also available for children.
