G-Eazy: rapper announces 2018 UK tour
The release of Gerald Gillum's fourth record The Beautiful & Damned has showed just why the American producer and rapper is fast rising through the ranks to become one of the most sought after hip-hop artists in 2018. Compared with the likes of Macklemore, the Californian blends indie beats with classic rap wordplay, resulting in a sound that takes the genre back to its roots. Fleshing out his sound, The Beautiful & Damned (which includes collaborations with the likes of Cardi B, ASAP Rocky and Halsey) marks an important move for the rapper as he looks to stand apart from his contemporaries. The approach has already borne fruit with a top five hit in both the Candian and US charts.
He crosses the Atlantic in May 2018 for a series of live shows at venues from the O2 Academy in Brixton to Birmingham's Academy 1, so grab your G-Eazy tickets now at StubHub UK to catch him live in the UK.
G-Eazy: Californian makes waves in the rap world
Born Gerald Earl Gillum in 1989, the wannabe musician started work in production while at university in New Orleans as part of a hip-hop crew named the Bay Boyz. Using MySpace as a platform, he began to release mixtapes, including his solo debut LP The Epidemic. After gaining a significant social media following, Gillum was asked to open for major artists such as Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg, before releasing 2011 mixtape The Endless Summer. It was his breakthrough moment, and a re-worked version of 1961 number one hit "Runaround Sue" garnered over four million views on YouTube. He followed up that success with a nationwide tour alongside Shwayze, before performing on the US dates of the Van's Warped Tour. He then ended the year on a high, releasing his first independent album Must Be Nice, which proved another stepping stone on his route to stardom.
After a second stint supporting Lil Wayne on tour, Gillum dropped his first major label album release These Things Happen in 2014. Proving extremely popular, it landed at number three in the US Billboard 200, and saw the wordsmith embark on his first headline tour with dates across the globe. His success continued in 2015, with highlights including main stage slots at major summer festivals from Lollapalooza to Austin City Limits. In December of the same year, Gillum's sophomore album When It's Dark Out was released to critical acclaim, giving him another top five hit in the US as well as a top ten breakthrough in the UK R&B charts. He performs for his British fans throughout May and June 2018, so get your G-Eazy tickets at StubHub UK and make sure you don't miss out.
