FIVB Women’s Nations League TicketsThe FIVB Nations League is an annual volleyball tournament that brings together the best teams from around the globe. Featuring world-class players, high stakes and an electric atmosphere, the tournament lasts for an epic month and a half, as national teams compete in six-against-six indoor volleyball matches to determine both overall rankings — the top three teams all receive medals — and prize money. The Nations League was originally envisioned as a replacement for the now-defunct women’s-only World Grand Prix (and also the men’s version, the World League). The United States won the first annual Nations League tournament over Turkey in a thrilling five-game match. The tournament is administered by the Internationale de Volleyball, or FIVB, the sport’s global governing body. If you enjoy high-level volleyball, you won't want to miss this event. You can purchase your FIVB Women’s Nations League tickets at StubHub, a leading source for tickets to your favorite live sporting events.
Who participates in the tournament? The Nations League tournament features a total of 16 teams, including 12 core teams and four challenger teams. The core teams for 2020 include Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Russia, Serbia, Thailand, Turkey and the United States. The challenger teams include Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Poland and Canada. Challenger teams can qualify for the tournament by winning the annual Challenger Cup. However, if the final team does particularly poorly, then it can be relegated from the tournament.
What is the format of the tournament? The first phase of the Nations League tournament is the preliminary round. For five straight weeks, the tournament features four pools of four teams each playing each other in a round-robin format. Every single week, the pools are reshuffled to feature a different sets of teams. There are a total of 20 pools during the five-week preliminary rounds, so each team will play everyone else at least once. The teams will earn points depending on the results of the matches: three points for a 3-0 or 3-1 win, two points for a 3-2 win, one point for a 2-3 loss and no points for any other loss. These points contribute to the overall tournament rankings. The top five teams plus the tournament host will move on to the final rounds, which feature two pools of three teams each. The top two teams from each pool will progress to the semifinals. This is followed by a grand final and a third-place match. Altogether, the women’s tournament will feature 130 matches.
When does the tournament take place?Due to the start of the 2020 Summer Olympics in July, the 2020 Nations League will take place between May 19th and July 5th. The initial five-week preliminary rounds will be held in participating countries, including Japan, China, South Korea, Brazil, the United States and around Europe. The women will play during the week, while the men will play during the weekends. The final rounds will take place between July 1st and 5th in Nanjing, China.
Who was the winner of the previous tournament? The United States won the 2019 women’s tournament to capture its second-straight title. After falling down two sets to none, 20-25 and 22-25, the team roared back to beat Brazil in a five-set match. The USA finished the match with three straight wins, 25-15, 25-21 and 15-13. Andrea Drews led the United States with 33 points, 22 of which came on kills. The host nation, China, finished third with a victory over Turkey.
