Marvel at the suberb Shanghai speedway
A relatively young Grand Prix compared to the Belgian Grand Prix or the Spanish Grand Prix, the Chinese Grand Prix debuted in the 2004 season, with Brazilian Rubens Barrichello finishing top of the podium. The Shanghai International Circuit was designed by German engineer, racing driver and circuit designer Herman Tilke, who is also the brains behind Istanbul Park, former home of the Turkish Grand Prix and regarded by F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone as the best race track in the world, as well as Sochi Autodrom, home to the first Russian Grand Prix in 2014, among many more circuits across the world. This Chinese endeavor cost a whopping US$240 million, making it the most expensive Formula One circuit of its time, until Abu Dhabi crushed the record in 2009 at a mind-boggling US$6 billion. Nevertheless, the Chinese Grand Prix remains one of the toughest races on the calendar. With a huge 270-degree corner combination right out of turns one and two, it's edge-of-your-seat action from the get-go! F1 China tickets are now available to buy and sell via StubHub, so don't hesitate to get yours fast for an unforgettable experience!
A vision of racing excellence
The Chinese Government envisioned a home for the Grand Prix as early as the 1990s, with a circuit planned for the city of Zhuhai in the south of the country. Indeed, the Zhuhai International Circuit did come to fruition and was involved in the 1999 world championships, although it fell short due to failing to meet particular track requirements. Regardless, the government pushed on and eventually achieved what would become a memorable and well-loved date on the F1 calendar over the years. In 2006, Michael Schumacher won his final Formula One victory at the Chinese Grand Prix. From there, British driver and five-time British Grand Prix winner Lewis Hamilton, who is often considered one of the best drivers to have ever graced the sport along with Schumacher, took hold of a dominance at the event, gaining five victories between 2008 and 2017. His closest competition in China are Fernando Alonso and main rival Nico Rosberg, with two wins each. A testing, exciting and fast-paced thrill for any fan of Formula One, catch this race and all the action live, with F1 China tickets now available to buy and sell via StubHub!
