Diana Ross biography
Diana Ross is a multitalented American singer and actress who was born and raised in Detroit Michigan in 1944. She was the second of six children, born to a mother who was a schoolteacher and a father who was in the military. Growing up in a music-loving family, from an early age Ross was involved in the church choir and took tap dance lessons. At the age of 14, she became part of the music group the Primettes, which later became the Supremes when they were introduced at Motown studios in 1962. Known for their glamorous image and world-renowned songs "Baby Love" and "Stop! In The Name of Love", it was in 1969 when Ross decided to leave the group and start recording her first solo studio album, which would finally be released in June 1970 under the name Diana Ross. The album included earworm track "Ain't No Mountian High Enough", becoming Ross' first solo number one hit. Many other solo, soundtrack and live albums were yet to come, featuring all-time classic "Endless Love" in duet with Lionel Richie and a duet album with Marvin Gaye released in 1973. Her latest album Diana Ross Sings Songs From The Wiz was released in 2015 and features Ross' versions of the songs from the film The Wiz in which she starred alongside Michael Jackson in 1978.
