Connacht Rugby Tickets
Connacht Rugby - small but successful Irish rugby union team
The smallest of the four Irish provincial rugby union teams competing in the Pro14, Connacht proved that size doesn't matter when they lifted the league title for the first time in 2016. Catch the team nicknamed The Devil's Own in action by booking your Connacht Rugby tickets on StubHub.
From amateurs to Pro12 champions
Formed in 1895, six years after fellow Irish provincial sides Leinster Rugby, Munster Rugby and Ulster Rugby, Connacht spent the next century competing in the IRFU Interprovincial Rugby Championship. They won the title in 1956, 1957 and 1965 and also provided opposition for several international teams before turning professional in the mid-1990s. They subsequently became the first Irish team to beat both an English and French side in their own backyards, reached the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup on three separate occasions in the '00s, and helped to launch the careers of internationals such as Matt Healy, Finlay Bealham and Robbie Henshaw, all three of whom have enjoyed selections to the official Pro14 Team of the Year. The club achieved their biggest success in the 2015-16 season when against the odds, they beat fellow Irishmen Leinster in the final of the Pro12 to unexpectedly clinch one of the most coveted trophies in the game. The imposing Galway Sportsground
Connacht have called the Galway Sportsgrounds their home since the late 1920s and recorded their highest attendance in 2011 when the side played their first ever Heineken Cup match against Toulouse. The 8,100-capacity venue is renowned for being one of rugby union's most intimidating, imposing and inhospitable for opposing teams thanks to its proximity to the Atlantic Coast and the city's wet climate. Owned by the Galway Agricultural and Sports Society, it's also famous for its greyhound track, which runs between the field and stands and is regularly used to stage Irish Greyhound Board race meetings on non-matchdays. Fans attending Connacht matches should expect to see a largely homegrown team featuring several Irish internationals and players who have emerged through the academy system. However, the team has also been represented by players from England, New Zealand, Ireland, Australia and Fiji among others since their unexpected Pro12 championship win in 2016.
