Born in Texas in 1972, Tomlin listened to country music as a child and was largely influenced musically by Willie Nelson's Stardust. Tomlin graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in psychology but after graduation became increasingly involved in leading worship music at events for Passion, a youth ministry conference organization led by Louie Giglio. When Giglio started Six Steps Records, a recording label for youth-oriented musicians, Tomlin was one of the initial signers with his first album, Alive. Since then, Tomlin has become one of the most prolific and successful modern Christian artists.
