Chris Moyles Biography - Pop-Picker to Proper Performer
Like many in his field, this versatile entertainer began his career on hospital radio, broadcasting from a medical facility in Wakefield as a teenager. After making his name on local stations up and down the UK, his big national break came when he joined Radio 1 in 1997. Starting on the morning graveyard shift between 4:00 and 6:00 AM, he eventually graduated to an afternoon slot alongside his on-air sidekick 'Comedy' Dave Vitty. Before long, declarations of his own brilliance were proving well founded as listening figures continued to rise, leading to a move to the most prestigious programme on the station, the Breakfast Show, in 2004. During a colourful eight-year stint in this flagship role, Moyles gained national fame and a loyal following of fans. Known for his gruff Northern humour and endless succession of jingles and comedy songs, he's now one of the country's most recognisable entertainers.
After accepting the role of King Herod in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar in 2012, Moyles announced a one-off UK tour with his old broadcasting buddies, the shows encompassing a mix of songs, audience participation and question and answer sessions.
