Cher Biography - A Showbiz Phenomenon

Born Cherilyn Sarkisian in California in 1946, this darling of the dancefloor anthem showed early promise as a performer, producing and starring in a school production of Oklahoma! at the age of 9. When she was barely out of her teens, she shot to fame as one half of Sonny & Cher, performing with her partner Sonny Bono. Together they produced such global hits as 'I Got You Babe' and 'Baby Don't Go'. At the same time, Cher was beginning to carve out her own stellar solo career, and quickly became the innovator of fashion, music and film we know today. Her 1987 Oscar win for the film Moonstruck, and her game-changing 1998 hit single 'Believe',on which she pioneered the auto-tune effect, remain amongst the most notable.

Showing no signs of slowing down in her twilight years, this energetic entertainer scored her highest-charting solo album, Closer to the Truth, in 2013 as she prepares for her first tour in six years.
