Charlie Puth Biography - Nine Track Mind
Music was a big part of this artist's life from the very beginning; after spending his early years training in piano, he was awarded a full scholarship to the Berklee College of Music to study music production and engineering. There, he set up his own YouTube channel Charlie Vlogs, initially focusing on comedy videos and acoustic covers before releasing an extended play, The Otto Tunes, in 2010. He then entered and won an online video competition hosted by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton with a cover of Adele's 'Someone Like You', catching the attention of TV personality Ellen DeGeneres, who was quick to sign him to her own record label. Releasing 'Break Again' with fellow Berklee grad Emily Luther, Puth then took time to develop his writing, working on songs and jingles for fellow YouTube personalities, before going on to co-write 'Celebrate' for Pitbull's album Globalization.
He signed with Atlantic Records in 2015 and found instant popularity with his first official single 'Marvin Gaye' featuring Meghan Trainor, topping the charts across the globe. It wasn't long before Puth returned again, this time alongside Wiz Khalifa for 'See You Again', which earned nominations at the 2016 Grammy and Golden Globe Awards. He continued to work with other artists for the rest of the year, from Lil Wayne to Jason Derulo and CeeLo Green, before kicking off 2016 with his own debut studio album Nine Track Mind. Praised for its subtle retro R&B sound, reviewers were astounded by the 24-year-old's songwriting accomplishments, and the record proved a huge success. After his US tour in March 2016, he makes his way to the UK for a select number of dates in May, including a night at London's KOKO.
