Central Michigan Chippewas Football TicketsLocated in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, the Central Michigan football team derives its name from the nearby Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe with which it's associated. The football program has a long and rich history that dates back to 1896 as an independent school. In 1974, Central Michigan won its sole Division II national championship with a 54–14 route against the University of Delaware. Roy Kramer earned Coach of the Year honors for his exemplary leadership. The following year, Central Michigan transitioned to Division I football and joined the Mid-American Conference. College Football Hall of Fame coach Herb Deromedi took over and led the team to a school record 110 wins, including an undefeated season in 1979. Following a down period in the team's fortunes, future Irish head coach Brian Kelly revived the program. His final season in 2006 culminated in a conference title. In 2009, Central Michigan put together a 12-win season (tied for best in school history) and another conference title under Butch Jones.
