Excellence and a connection to the city

Previously residing in both New England and Hartford under the team name Whalers, the Hurricanes moved to North Carolina in 1997. The team was named following Hurricanes Fran and Bertha, two strong tropical storms that hit the state during 1996. The team didn't take long to reward the new fan base and city, winning the Stanley Cup against the Edmonton Oilers in 2006.
