Bullet for My Valentine: Welsh heavy metal rockers back with new album

Originally known as Jeff Killed John, Bridgend boys Matthew Tuck, Michael Paget and Michael Thomas began playing covers of Nirvana and Metallica together while studying back in Wales before writing their own material. As nu metal went out of fashion though, their early style proved a difficult selling point for the group, and they elected to change up their sound and name. With heavy metal guitar lines underneath angelic harmonies, the revamped Bullet for My Valentine caught the attention of Sony, finally allowing them to begin building their profile. Debut album The Poison proved a slow burning hit after its 2005 release, and has since sold over one million copies worldwide, earning gold certification in both the US and UK. After extensive touring took them all over the world with support slots for the likes of Metallica and Guns N' Roses, second LP Scream Aim Fire took a more up-tempo turn in 2008, peaking at number four in the Billboard charts and number five in the UK.

With confidence of the band high, they elected to return to their heavier roots with 2010's Fever. With no ballads included whatsoever, the record is a breakneck blast from start to finish, and their fans were impressed - Fever quickly became their most successfully charting work to date. After further touring, the band began work on Temper Temper, releasing a preview single of the same name before its February 2013 release. Reviews praised the great guitar hooks and lyrical themes running throughout, and the group continued their momentum on their fifth LP Venom, labelling it their 'heaviest yet'. Critics and fans were united in hailing the frenetic energy of the album before 2018's Gravity moved the band back toward the nu metal sound similar to their early years.
