Bryan Ferry: from Roxy Music to solo stardom
Born in Tyne and Wear, future star Bryan Ferry fell in love with music at an early age and moved to London in 1968 to pursue his career, alongside soul band The Gas Board. Through the band he met bassist Graham Simpson and the two would go on to form glam rock group Roxy Music, alongside Brian Eno, Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay, Paul Thompson, Eddie Jobson and John Gustafson. The group's experimental style set a precedent for the genre, with tracks such as "Jealous Guy" going on to inspire countless artists for years to come.
Ferry's solo career also took off outside of the band in 1973, with first album These Foolish Things giving rise to his first top five hit in the UK. Since then, the soloist has carved out a distinctive on synth-infused pop sound and gone on to release 14 further albums, achieving a number one hit with Boys and Girls in 1985 and a number two with Taxi in 1993; while later records Frantic and Dylanesque also landed in the UK top 10. Favourite singles like the emotive "Slave to Love" and "Don't Stop the Dance" make up just some of the singer's extensive back catalogue, so make sure you catch this iconic musician live when he next tours the UK: buy Bryan Ferry tickets now at StubHub.
