BRIT Awards 2016 - Adele, Coldplay and Justin Bieber Announced as Headline Acts

BRIT Awards 2016 - Making Music History for 36 Years

Now in its 36th year, the British Phonographic Industry Awards were created as the UK equivalent of the Grammy Awards in America, to celebrate the greatest achievements of the biggest and best artists of the moment. Popstar Robbie Williams currently holds the record for the greatest number of award wins, with 12 as a solo artist and five as part of Take That, and his total of 17 is over double any other artist. Last year saw memorable events such as Madonna's now infamous stage fall whilst performing 'Living for Love', and a surprise performance of 'All Day' from Kanye West.

As well as recognising some of the best musical moments of the year, the awards have also provided some iconic live performances too. Back in 1997, the world was introduced to the Spice Girls, who would go on to be one of the biggest girl bands in the world, while in 2011 Adele captivated audiences with an emotive rendition of 'Someone Like You'. After returning in 2015 with her third album 25, the songstress has been announced as one of the headline acts for this year's ceremony on the 24th February at London's O2.
