Bramall Lane: a unique football stadium
Bramall Lane has the unique distinction of being the world's oldest major stadium to still be holding professional football matches. This sporting venue in the heart of Sheffield was built in 1855 and, despite having undergone extensive renovations, still has much of its traditional flair and a tangible sense of history. Now you too can take a seat here with tickets for Bramall Lane, available to buy or sell on StubHub.
Feel the history of Bramall Lane
Although Bramall Lane was originally constructed as a cricket ground, it has been home to Sheffield United (fondly nicknamed "The Blades" on account of the crossed swords on their logo) since 1889. The first football match at Bramall Lane was actually played in 1862, between Sheffield FC and Hallam FC, and the stadium also hosted numerous international matches - mainly between Scotland and England - before a home team was especially created for the venue. The highest ever attendance at the stadium was in 1936, when over 62,000 spectators watched a match played against Leeds United. Since then, in line with new regulations, the stadium has been redeveloped so that maximum attendance at Bramall Lane is now 32,702 spectators. This is still a considerable number and means that the atmosphere on match days, particularly when Sheffield United is playing a major rival such as Sheffield Wednesday - whose home field is across town in the Hillsborough stadium - or West Ham United FC, is electric. Tickets for Bramall Lane are a must-have for any football fan wanting to soak up a piece of history alongside an exciting match.
An electric atmosphere at Bramall Lane
While primarily used for football matches, Bramall Lane also has a broader history behind it: the stadium hosted a Cricket Test series match between England and Australia in 1902 as well as boxing, cycling and rugby events, an evangelist meeting with famed preacher Billy Graham and two concerts by Bruce Springsteen in 1988. Located in the heart of the city, the venue can be reached by car or public transport from across the UK. It is beloved by all Sheffield United fans who have given each area of the venue its own characteristics. The best views at Bramall Lane football stadium are said to be from the southwest corner, known as the Westfield Health Stand, or from the family area within the John Street stand. Areas such as the Kop Stand are known for their more boisterous fans - be sure to know all the chants if you're going to sit here! But no matter what spot you choose on the seating plan, you're guaranteed a magical atmosphere at this iconic venue. Buy or sell your Bramall Lane tickets on StubHub today!
