Founded in 1909, Borussia Dortmund spent their early years in Germany's amateur leagues before making it to the Oberliga West in the post-war era. The club went on to lift three national titles, and in 1963, it became one of the inaugural Bundesliga teams, with Friedhelm Konietzka netting the league's first ever goal. In 1965, they lifted the DFB-Pokal, and a year later, became the first German side to win a European trophy when they beat Liverpool in the Cup Winners' Cup final. Borussia Dortmund struggled to achieve the same success over the next two decades, but a second domestic cup win in 1989 sparked a new golden age. Guided by Ottmar Hitzfeld and captained by European Footballer of the Year Matthias Sammer, the club won back-to-back Bundesliga titles in the mid-1990s before beating Juventus 3-1 in a memorable Champions League final at Munich's OIympiastadion. After adding the Intercontinental Cup to their trophy haul, the club won their third league title on the last day of the 2002 season. You can buy or sell Borussia Dortmund tickets on StubHub.
After a decade of unrest on and off the field, Borussia Dortmund returned to their former glory thanks to the 2009 appointment of Jurgen Klopp, the future Liverpool boss who guided the club to their fourth league championship just two years later. Borussia Dortmund then successfully defended their title a year later, while also achieving their first league and cup double, surpassing rivals Schalke 04's all-time tally and in 2013, finished runners-up to Bayern Munich in the all-German Champions League final. After three consecutive final defeats, Dortmund finally lifted their fourth DFB-Pokal trophy in 2017, when they beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1. Now managed by former Swiss international Lucien Favre, the current side boasts Germany's World Cup 2014 final goalscorer Mario Gotze and Portugal's Euro 2016 winner Raphael Guerreiro, as well as Japan's Shinji Kagawa, Turkey's Omer Toprak and promising English forward Jadon Sancho.
