Bombay Bicycle Club: one of Britain's biggest indie bands
Forming at school while at the age of 15, the group initially comprised of frontman Jack Steadman, guitarist Jamie MacColl and drummer Suren de Saram. The group started their career under the moniker The Canals, before bringing in bassist Ed Nash in 2006 and changing their name to Bombay Bicycle Club (a reference to their favourite Indian restaurant).
Clearly influenced by a wealth of post-punk and new wave acts, their adventurous sound made Bombay Bicycle Club an instant cult act as they became regulars on the London pub and club circuit. The boys tried their luck in Virgin Mobile's 'Road to V' battle of the bands contest, and their reverb-slicked melodies helped them win the competition, launching them into the limelight. Their prize, an opening slot at V Festival, led to a flurry of record deal offers and the rest is history.
Their debut album I Had the Blues but Shook Them Loose received high praise from the music press including the NME in 2009, paving the way for their sparkling acoustic sophomore effort, Flaws, the following year. Their return to an electric centric sound in their prized third record, A Different Kind of Fix, cemented them as one of the most popular indie rock acts in Britain.
The band hit the top of the UK album charts in 2014 with their fourth studio album, which was "another radical change and a wonder of cosmetic surgery, So Long, See You Tomorrow is an often dazzling, euphoric electronic-pop record" according to Pitchfork.
