Jammin' With Blues TravelerBlues Traveler started out as a high school garage band in the mid-'80s. Vocalist and guitarist John Popper and drummer Brendan Hill originally called the band The Establishment. During this time, the band recorded a few demos on cassette tapes and also added Chris Kinchla (guitarist) and Bobby Sheehan (bass) to the lineup. The basement jam session inspired the many grooves for the band's debut album. Once graduating high school, the band members moved to New York City. The band began to play gigs throughout the city and caught the attention of talent scouts from A&M Records. By 1990, the band was signed and on its way to recording its first major album. Blues Traveler was the band's debut, and it spawned the hit song called "But Anyway." The band would release Travelers and Thieves and On Tour Forever before it hit the mainstream. In 1994, Blues Traveler released Four, and it quickly became a hit on radio stations. "Hook" and "Run-Around" topped the Billboard charts during that year.
