One of music's most influential post punk outfits, Rock and Roll Hall of Fameresidents Blondie are as famous for their strong-willed front woman as they are for their glittering discography. Debbie Harry led the cult new wave group to international fame with her airy singing voice, swish of bleached hair and deadpan expression in the 1970s. Decade defining hits such as "Rapture" and "Call Me" sealed their place as one of the most highly regarded music acts in history, and the six piece continue to remain relevant in the modern music landscape.
After wowing crowds with a brilliant set of classics and new material as they supported headliner Phil Collins at 2017's British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park, the band saw out 2017 with eight sold out shows around the UK. Keep your eyes peeled for the band's next tour dates and grab Blondie tickets at StubHub UK today.
Blondie: Debbie Harry still the darling of post punk
Offering a unique sound that blended elements of punk rock and ironic 1960s Euro disco, Blondie burst onto the New York post punk scene in the mid-1970s. Debbie Harry quickly became known as 'new wave's answer to Marilyn Monroe' while the band's melodic punk rock songs like "Sunday Girl" and "One Way or Another" became smash hits. While the band resonated with UK audiences immediately, they initially found it hard to break out of the US underground scene.
1978's Parallel Lines finally cracked the American mass market – thanks largely to the power of the worldwide hit single "Heart of Glass" – and went on to sell over 20 million copies worldwide. Albums such as Eat to the Beat (1979) and No Exit (1999) have spawned a wealth of material since, while 2017's critically acclaimed Pollinator boasts collaborations with TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek, Dev Hynes, Sia, Johnny Marr, Charli XCX and Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi.
With over 40 million record sales under their belt, sell-out concerts, and fans clamouring to hear new material, Blondie concerts are still one of the highlights of the gig calendar.
