Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: leather-clad rockers

Forming in the late 1990s in California, Black Rebel Motorcycle Clcub were originally named The Elements before switching to their current moniker, a homage to Marlon Brando's motorcycle gang in cult '50s film The Wild One. It proved a perfect fit for joint frontmen Peter Hayes and Robert Levon Been and drummer Nick Jago, astutely summing up their leather-clad punk aesthetic and outsider affectations.

After being signed by Virgin Records they put out their self-titled debut album in 2001, scoring rave reviews on both sides of the Atlantic and spawning huge festival anthems such as "Love Burns" and "Spread Your Love". 2003 follow-up Take Them On, On Your Own built on this success, hitting number three in the UK album charts, cracking the US Billboard Top 50 and cementing their status as one of indie-rock's biggest live draws. Over the course of the past decade it's a position they've maintained with popular LPs such as the acoustic-leaning Howl and 2013's Specter At The Feast.

Eighth album Wrong Creatures was released in January 2018, preceded by single "Little Thing Gone Wild".
