Billy Ocean: soul legend announces 2018 and 2019 UK dates

As one of the most prominent Caribbean artists of the MTV generation, Billy Ocean fuses traditional R&B with reggae-cool; resulting in an extensive career that has spanned almost 40 years and produced record sales of over 30 million. 

Besides his own work, Ocean's contributions to the music industry have been prolifi. He has penned songs for artists from Boyzone to The Nolans and been recognised through numerous critical accolades, including a Lifetime Achievement MOBO Award.

Following his 2017 sell-out tour, Billy Ocean will be back in the UK for a 13-date party tour in 2018 with the British soul icon promising to perform the best of his greatest hits and favourite tracks. Billy Ocean: 40 years, 30 million records sold

Born Leslie Charles in Trinidad, Billy Ocean moved to England when he was seven years old. Inspired by the likes of Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, his love of music was apparent from an early age. By his teens Billy Ocean was regularly performing at clubs in London's East End.

1976 saw the release of his eponymous-titled debut album, spawning the singer's first successful single: "Love Really Hurts Without You". Reaching number two on the UK charts, Billy Ocean followed the release with a succession of albums before being recognised by international star LaToya Jackson.

Recruiting Billy Ocean to write a track, "Stay the Night", for her 1980 debut album, the Calypso-inspired artist went on to break America with the million-selling double platinum single "Caribbean Queen" in 1984 – the most successful of any of Billy Ocean's songs.

Announcing his new tour dates Ocean said: Billy said: "I’m really looking forward to my UK tour next year, it’s going to be 13 party nights."

Last year, he released Here You Are: The Best Of Billy Ocean in the UK, which gained a top four spot in the charts – his highest since 1989. The new tour will feature the latest material from his new album, which is set for release in 2018.
