Join the crowds at the Big Bash League
First established in 2011, the Big Bash League consists of eight city-based cricket teams as opposed to the six state teams that had participated in the competition's predecessor. These can now be seen competing for the Sheffield Shield, a tough first-class cricket competition. As Twenty20 Cricket is considerably shorter than other forms of the game, it's a fast-paced and exciting tournament to attend - a quality that is reflected in the high average attendance at Big Bash League matches. The 2017-18 season saw an average crowd of 26,500 per match, while the previous year numbers reached over 30,000 per game. Held in the summer months of December and January, the Big Bash League is a perfect way to spend a summer's day indulging in some top quality sport and soaking up the unique atmosphere that can only come with a Twenty20 cricket match. Pick your favourite team or decide based on your nearest ground - Big Bash League tickets are available for the games held at stadiums right across the country.
Don't miss exciting Big Bash League fixtures
The Big Bash League teams hail mainly from Australia's South and East, with the Perth Scorchers the only team to come from the West Coast. They were also the most successful team in the early years of the competition, winning the title three times in its first seven years (including twice consecutively) and boasting batsman Michael Klinger, who achieved the most runs of any player during this period and went on to play T20 for Australia Cricket. Other teams to watch closely are Brisbane Heat and the Adelaide Strikers, who took their first trophy in 2018 at home, while Big Bash League fixtures between local rivals Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder or Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars always draw excitable crowds. The 2015-16 season saw a new attendance record when the latter two teams played the Melbourne Derby: nearly 81,000 fans attended the first of two matches at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. No matter who your favourite team or where you choose to watch a game, you can be assured of an exhilarating event and an emotional crowd around you. Don't miss out on the experience of this exciting cricket competition; you'll find your Big Bash League tickets to buy or sell on StubHub.
