High school experiments to Far East success with bbno$
Born Alexander Gumuchian in Vancouver, in 1995, bbno$ found it difficult to get into music at first, despite the efforts of his mother. He claims to have not found an interest in music until the age of fifteen, something he pursued with more effort after an injury to his back meant he could not continue training to become a professional swimmer. Along with a group of high school friends, Gumuchian began making music for the sheer pleasure of it and the group called themselves Broke Boy Gang. Despite breaking up after a few months, it gave the rapper a platform on which to work on and he made a SoundCloud profile under the name bbnomula and began to upload tracks. Somewhat unexpectedly, his songs became huge hits in China after a member of dance group TFBoys played one of Gumuchian’s tracks at his birthday party and he gained millions of streams and followers and even arranged a headline tour across the country. A perfect example of an internet rapper, grab your bbno$ tickets here at StubHub to see the online sensation in action!
True millennial rap
The rapper followed up on his Chinese popularity with a collaborative EP with Yung Gravy, the appropriately titled ‘Baby Gravy’ (2017). The EP preceded another collaborative effort, ‘Whatever’ (2018) with So Loki, and led to the release of his debut album ‘Bb Steps’ (2018). The album was the perfect introduction to Gumuchian’s oxymoronical rap sound, combining ignorant yet self-aware lyrics with hard trap beats. His second album continued this theme, with 2019’s ‘Recess’, inspired by the children’s TV show of the same name and featuring an appearance from Y2K with the track ‘Lalala’, which was expertly marketed across a number of unlikely apps and websites. The following album ‘i don’t care at all’ (2019) shows the rapper’s fun and playful personality, something which is central to his incredible live shows. Representing a new generation of hip-hop personalities along with the likes of Post Malone and Lil Nas X, buy your bbno$ tickets here to see this internet sensation live! Got spare tickets?
