More About Bath Rugby - Historical Club Back on Form

One of the oldest in the world, the club was created by the members of the Lansdown Cricket Club in 1865 to give them something to do over the winter period. It would go on to acquire a stadium, Recreation Grounds, in 1884 which is still their 14,000 capacity home today. The early teams initially suffered local defeats due to the lightweight size of the players. However this all changed in the '60s when fast attacking rugby would lay down the foundation of the team's strategy. After the '80s, the squad would begin to dominate tournaments like the John Player/Pilkington Special Cup and when the Premier League began in 1986 Bath would win six times in eight years. Managed by the great England coach Jack Rowell, the period of play between the early '80s and '90s would become known as their 'Golden Era'.

Now coached by the enigmatic Mike Ford, the squad includes the coach's son, fly half George Ford, and captain Stuart Hooper. While the Bath team haven't won a British title since 1996, the current squad have great potential, with six members competing regularly at international level.
