Backstreet Boys - The Best-Selling Boy Band in History
At the turn of the 21st Century, this best-loved boy band pioneered the teen pop craze that swept continents across the planet, going on to sell over 130 million records worldwide. Backstreet Boys released their eponymous debut album in 1996 and the record went on to soar to the top of charts across Europe, with tracks like 'We've Got It Goin' On' and 'I'll Never Break Your Heart' capturing a horde of fans. Tracks from their 1997 sophomore release, Backstreet's Back, helped the band crack America, spawning further contemporary classics including 'As Long as You Love Me' and 'Everybody (Backstreet's Back)', which is noted for its acclaimed music video - a parody of the horror film genre.
Their unique amalgamation of several different genres of music including hip hop, contemporary R'n'B and rock became the bonafide sound of the era, with subsequent pop contenders including Britney Spears, 'NSYNC, 98 degrees and Destiny's Child bringing the same elements into their own chart-topping music.
Their third album Millennium was their first record to be released in the US and Europe at the same time. The LP is one of the bestselling albums of all time, stacking up 30 million worldwide sales and five Grammy Award nominations. Besides 'Larger than Life' and 'Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely', the catchy ballad 'I Want It That Way' went on to become the band's signature song, reaching number one in 25 counties across the globe. The song has been affectionately defined as the 'How Deep Is Your Love' of its era.
In 2015, the boys will be back in the UK promoting their brand new documentary Show Em' What Your Made Of.
