Amos Lee: feather touch jazz
Philadelphia native Amos Lee piqued his passion for music while studying his degree in English Literature at the University of South Carolina in the 1990s. After graduating, he taught at an elementary school before quitting to pursue his showbiz dreams; drawing much inspiration from 1970s folk artists and jazz and soul singers. His laid back vocal style and self-deprecating lyrics helped him land high profile gigs, including touring with internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Norah Jones.
After signing to Blue Note Records, Lee released his eponymous debut album in 2005, following it up with sophomore effort Supply and Demand shortly after. In 2008, his breakthrough third record Last Days at the Lodge cracked the US Top 40 and his audience grew rapidly. Many high profile musicians caught wind of his extraordinary talent and his next record Mission Bell included collaborations with celebrated artists such as Willie Nelson and Sam Beam of Iron and Wine fame. The album soared to number one in the US charts, leading to high profile appearances on America's late night talk shows. He returned in 2013 with his critically acclaimed Nashville album Mountains of Sorrow, Rivers of Song, featuring vocal samples from Alison Krauss and Patty Griffin. The light jazz luminary is best seen live, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for Amos Lee tour dates and pick up tickets at StubHub when he next visits the UK.
