Alt-J: new album and UK tour in 2018
Mercury Prize winners and one of the most popular bands on the alternative-indie circuit, Leeds based Alt-J group drew their name from the Apple Mac keyboard sequence "Alt - J", giving them the delta sign that would later become their signature icon. From the award-winning debut album, An Awesome Wave to their 2014 smash LP This Is All Yours, the group has gone from strength to strength, with their unique mix of folk and dub-tinted electronica. With a new album on the way in the form of REDUXER, Alt-J are hitting the road again for another UK tour; playing venues across the country throughout October 2018. Alt-J: award-winning genre-benders
Joe Newman, Gus Hamilton, Thom Green and Gwil Sainsbury first came together at the University of Leeds and began recording demos, with their unique sound forged from having to keep noise levels low in their student halls of residence. Upon moving to Cambridge, the band signed with Infectious Records and recorded their debut eponymous EP, ∆, which featured the tracks "Breezeblocks" and 'Tessellate", songs that would soon become two of their biggest hits to date. After the release of debut album An Awesome Wave to near-universal acclaim, the band supported Wild Beasts on tour and became a popular presence at music festivals across the country. In 2012, the band were nominated for three Brit Awards and managed to claim the illustrious Mercury Prize for the debut album.
2014 saw the amicable departure of bassist Gwil Sainsbury, with the band vowing to continue as a three-piece band. They toured North America just before the release of second album This Is All Yours in 2014, which in turn when on to hit the top spot in the UK charts. After a heavy tour all over the US, the band prolonged their tour further adding further dates to the UK in answer to the success.
Of course, considering the two-year gap since their major world tour, the trio have remained busy with a Twitter statement from the lads explaining their recent exploits: "Thom Green released a solo album; Gus his own restaurant; Joe has been watching a lot of films". Now with a new album on the horizon, they're back om tour in 2018 and will be calling at venues across the UK this October. Don't miss out! Buy Alt-J tickets now at StubHub.
