Hailing from Sicily, Alborosie is a world-renowned reggae artist celebrated for his passion and purist production style. Following his early success as a teenager in his band, The Reggae National Tickets, Alborosie took his musical talent and career to the next level by becoming a part of the Jamaican reggae scene. Alborosie has performed at sold out tours and festivals all over the world. His former band, The Reggae National Tickets, was the first Italian band to ever play at Sunsplash and Sumfest in Jamaica. Although he is most famous as a reggae performer and singer, he is also an accomplished studio engineer and producer. He is also a skilled multi-instrumentalist, performing bass, keyboards, drums, percussion and guitar on his albums.
Born Alberto D'Ascola in Marsala in Sicily, Alborosie now considers his hometown to be Kingston, Jamaica. Garnering success at a young age with The Reggae National Tickets, Alborosie has proven himself as a sound engineer, producer and solo artist. Alborosie has been involved with many record labels, but most impressively, he was signed by the record label of the legendary Bob Marley, Tuff Gong. He is the first white artist to accomplish this. In 2011, Alborosie was awarded the MOBO Award in the UK for Best Reggae Act.
After forming his band, The Reggae National Tickets, at a young age and gaining success, Alborosie moved to Jamaica to get closer to the origins of reggae and Rastafari. Alborosie became a producer and sound engineer for Geejam Studios, which ended up being a major stepping stone for his career. This allowed him to hook up and collaborate with many musicians and gain further success as an individual. Alborosie finally gained international recognition with his song "Herbalist" off his 2006 album, Soul Pirate.
As a solo artist, Alborosie gained his first mainstream success with the hit song "Herbalist." The song is from his 2006 album Soul Pirate, which followed his self-titled debut album. In 2010, he released Dub Clash, which includes material with local session musicians from Jamaica in addition to his own material. He also notes that the entire record was recorded with vintage gear to honor his favourite record producer, King Tubby.
Alborosie performs live with a backing band, usually including a bassist, a drummer, a keyboard player and a couple of guitar players. As he sings, his signature dreadlocks swing in the air, delighting the crowds that come to his concerts en masse. His fans are known to be passionate, often singing along with every lyric he belts out.
