Albany Empire Tickets
In 2018, the AFL expanded from four teams to six by adding the Albany Empire in 2018 and the Atlantic City Blackjacks in the following year. The Albany Empire’s home stadium is the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. Established in 1987, the arena league added teams in 1990, including the original Albany team, the Firebirds, which existed from 1990 to 2000. Its original iteration won the Arena Bowl and had a record of 88 wins and 60 losses. The team name was changed in 2002 to the Albany Conquest, the name it kept until 2008. In August 2019, the AFL began studying the option of transitioning to a traveling league. In October 2019, Boe announced the AFL would suspend play while it re-organized. Despite its short two-year existence, the Empire has experienced the best attendance of any AFL team. Its opening year’s average home attendance was 9,714 fans per game. In its second year, the team averaged 10,053 fans attending per home game. That is more than twice the attendance of competing teams Baltimore and Atlantic City and 20–30% more individuals in attendance than other league teams, including Philadelphia, Washington, Columbus, Atlantic City and Baltimore. The league average home game attendance was 7,195.What is Albany Empire’s record?
Since its establishment, the Empire led the league. In its first season, it ended with the best regular-season record in the AFL with eight wins and four losses. In its second season, it improved that to 10 wins and two losses. How many championships has the Albany Empire won?
The Empire won the AFL championship, the ArenaBowl XXXII, in 2019. On Aug. 11, 2019, football fans in Times Union Center saw the Empire defeat the Philadelphia Soul 45 to 27 before a crowd of 12,042. Albany also won the AFL championship in 1999 when the team was known as the Albany Firebirds.Who is the head coach of the Albany Empire?
Rob Keefe joined the Albany Empire in November 2017 as head coach. Keefe had played in the AFL as a defensive back for the Philadelphia Soul. He previously had coached the Spokane Shock and the Orlando Predators. He is the only individual in the AFL to have won both an Arena Cup and Arena Bowl as a player and as a coach. How do the AFL rules differ from NCAA or NFL rules?
The playing field used by the Albany Empire and its competitors differ in size from the National Football League (NFL), measuring 85 feet in width and 50 yards in length with eight-yard endzones. Play occurs on an indoor padded surface. Kickoffs take place from the goal line. The passing rules mimic those of NCAA outdoor football except the rules involving a forward pass and the rebound nets, which states that, if the forward pass rebounds off the endzone net, the football remains live. It remains in play until it hits the playing surface. A team has nine players on the field at one time. The teams divide everything into 15 minute increments: all four quarters, overtime and halftime. What is the tailgating scene like at an Albany Empire game?
The Albany football crowd enjoys tailgating, and the team encourages it. The Empire partnered with Bud Light to create a seating section titled The Bud Light Party Zone. This area hosts ticket holders only tailgate parties. It includes all-you-can-eat hamburgers and hot dogs as well as sodas. The area offers beer specials. The team also hosts pregame block parties on the street outside Times Union Center.Where can you get Albany Empire tickets?
