A closer look at the Ageas Bowl
Hampshire is the location of the breathtakingly elegant Ageas Bowl (formerly Rose Bowl), which is the home of the Hampshire County Cricket Club. Opened in 2001, it has gone on to host the top cricketing events including One Day International Cricket, Cricket Test Series as well as the local County Cricket competitions. One memorable Twenty20 International match in 2013 featured a record-breaking scoring run by Australian opener Aaron Finch against England. Designed by Sir Michael Hopkins, the Bowl was built as a replica of an amphitheatre, thus giving it its bowl-like shape. It is an acoustical marvel for a cricket ground, which means that the 25,000 spectators who jam into its stands can enjoy the sounds as well as the sights typical of a cricket match. Sporting events aside, the complex also boasts an eforea spa, offering the opportunity for a bit of self-indulgent pampering and luxurious relaxation for visitors and guests of the internationally recognized hotel on the Bowl's premises. How to get there and venue facts
Ageas Bowl underwent a renovation project in 2009 in order to secure qualification as a Test Match venue, which it obtained in 2011 when it hosted England vs. Sri Lanka. It now joins Lord's Cricket Ground, the Kia Oval and Trent Bridge as the premier cricket venues in England. It also doubles as a first class concert venue when the occasion warrants. Hospitality services including weddings, private dining, meetings, conferences and other events can be booked according to taste. Day visitors can lunch at the restaurant and, if you're around in November, there is the spectacular Guy Fawkes fireworks display that's a real firecracker! The Ageas Bowl is situated at Botley Road, West End, Southampton, Hampshire SO30 3XH. Just off the M27, there is free onsite parking for event attendees. The Hedge End train station (Portsmouth Solent Line) is a 35-minute walk from the venue or, if you prefer, the First Bus No. 8 or the Xelabus X4 can complete your journey as well. Of course, local taxi cabs are always an option. Times and schedules are available online. Ageas Bowl tickets are available now for purchase or sale via StubHub.
