Adia Victoria - Grungy blues from the Deep South
A few chords into her earthy, masculine songs and you'll know why this singer-songwriter's been hailed as one of music's rising stars by a united press. She draws influences from the world of grunge, adds a dash of country and a whole lot of blues to create a sultry mix of sonic genius, shedding a light on the lives of the outspoken. Tracks like 'Dead Eyes', 'Sea of Sand' and 'Howlin' Shame' are moving and uneasy tales of life in today's America, and it's not hard to get wrapped up in the emotion of it all.

Adia Victoria - The Southern Belle speaks out
Adia Victoria was born and raised in South Carolina, and as a child she turned to writing to cope with her parents' divorce. When she received a guitar for her 21st birthday, the words she'd written for years found a new home in music. She spent the next few years working odd jobs around Nashville, where she now lives, playing lo-fi gigs around the state, and it was this that made her name. With honest storytelling matched with ghostly tunes, she eventually found herself performing at South by Southwest, the largest music festival of its kind.
Since then she's been working closely with Yo La Tengo collaborator Roger Moutenot to record her debut album, Beyond the Bloodhound, which Rolling Stone described as "PJ Harvey covering Loretta Lynn at a haunted debutante ball." Her lyrics speak unflinchingly about her life as a young black woman raised below the poverty line in Southern America, as a line oft-quoted from her debut single 'Stuck in the South' states: "I don't know nothin' 'bout Southern belles, but I can tell you something 'bout Southern hell."
