A-Trak Biography - Battling to the Top

Born Alain Macklovitch, this performer displayed his DJing talents from a young age, first scratching vinyl on an old record player at the age of 13 - much to his father's chagrin. It didn't take long for the ambitious artist to start collecting more professional equipment and teach himself the tricks of the trade, forming Obscure Disorder with brother and half of Chromeo David Macklovitch in 1995. After sweeping up the top titles from DJ battling championships ITF and Vestax he became the youngest winner of the DMC World DJ Championship at just 15 years old. Despite being invited to join the revered Invisbl Skratch Piklz the young DJ retired from the competition scene at just 18 to give more attention to his solo work.

His big break came in 2004 when Kanye West caught his performance in a London record store. Macklovitch became the hip-hop great's personal touring DJ and his turntable skills were enlisted for projects on West's G.O.O.D. label, as well as the rap artist's later albums. This DJ has participated in numerous collaborations, including his pairing with Armand Van Helden in Duck Sauce.
