From lunchtime cyphers to supporting Drake
A Boogie was born as Artist Dubose in the Bronx, in 1995. Influenced by the likes of Kanye West and 50 Cent, Dubose began rapping at the age of 12 in cyphers during lunchtime in his freshman year of high school. He first gained attention after releasing a freestyle over the Mobb Deep classic "Quiet Time" under his unique stage name, which is reportedly a nickname that just stuck. At 12 years old, Dubose was a huge fan of the crime movie "Paid in Full" and earned the nickname "A Boogie" after a character from the film. After developing a thing for wearing hoodies all the time, "…Wit Da Hoodie" was eventually added on. A Boogie released his first full-length mixtape, "Artist", in 2016 to critical acclaim, earning him a spot on the up-and-coming rappers to watch list collated by Forbes. The project was influenced by a difficult break-up and would cement A Boogie’s sound for the future. Soon afterwards he earned an opening spot for Drake, signed with Atlantic Records and performed alongside the likes of Russ and Kent Jones. This artist is certainly up there with the best in modern hip hop, and you can buy or sell A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie tickets through StubHub right now!
