Band

The members of 2 Live Crew came out of South Florida as rap scene veterans. First sparked by DJ Mr. Mixx, the original trio - Mixx, along with Fresh Kid Ice and Amazing Vee - made a name for themselves with the locally-popular single "Revelation." Miami rapper and producer Luther Campbell inked the band and installed himself as the lead singer. The group then went into the studio to record their first record, The 2 Live Crew is What We Are.

Breakthrough

The 2 Live Crew is What We Are turned out to be an immediate smash. Bolstered by plenty of bawdy lyrics, the band quickly earned a cult following and the album was a certified gold hit. Two years later, their follow-up album Move Somethin' was another smash record, charting on the Billboard Top 200 and producing two hit singles.

Hit Albums

The band followed up Move Somethin' with the explicit hit record As Nasty As They Wanna Be. With the radio-friendly hit song "Me So Horny" as the lead single, As Nasty As They Wanna Be sold two million copies and went all the way up to #3 on the Hip Hop / R&B records chart. Next out was the politically-charged alum Banned in the U.S.A., a take off of the name of the Springsteen record Born in the U.S.A. The band continued to record and tour throughout the 1990s, releasing a sequel to As Nasty As They Wanna Be in 1991, The Original 2 Live Crew in 1995 and The Real One in 1998. Over their storied career, 2 Live Crew has released some of the raunchiest, most fun albums in the history of the rap genre.
