10cc Biography - 1970s Art Rock Heroes Return to the Stage
Rising from the ashes of various different Manchester based bands, this legendary art rock quad originally went under the name Hotlegs before changing their moniker after getting snapped up by a local record label. Playful vocal techniques, zany instrumental arrangements and a fondness for revisiting old fashioned music styles made them stand out, and their 1972 doo wop inspired debut single 'Donna' soared to number two in the UK charts.
In 1974, they released their sophomore album Sheet Music, the record that would propel them to global fame and acclaim. Yielding quirky, imaginative singles including 'Wall Street Shuffle' and 'Silly Love', the album's unique songwriting and production established the band as one of the best of the era, and is said to have influenced everyone from Freddie Mercury to Pulp and The Beautiful South. The band became distinguished for blending their own artistic nuances into the pop standard of the day, pushing other British bands to do the same.
In 1975, their single 'I'm Not In Love' from their third album The Original Soundtrack became their first global hit and the one they are most fondly remembered for. The Ivor Novello award winning track has entered the British music lexicon, appearing in countless international films and it continues to garner airplay to this day. In 2016, the band celebrate the 40th anniversary of Sheet Music with a mammoth UK tour, performing the album in its entirety each night.
