As their name suggests, 1. Fussball und Sportverein Mainz 05 e.V. were formed in the early 20th Century. The club went through several mergers and incarnations throughout the following four decades, a period in which they won various regional league titles. Although they spent the post-war era in the top tier of the Oberliga Sudwest, they missed out on a place in the newly-formed Bundesliga in 1963 and over the next 40 years and instead became second division perennials. The club narrowly missed out on promotion under pioneering coach Wolfgang Frank in 1997 and then again in 2002 and 2003, but they finally made it to the top flight of German football for the first time in their history in 2004, thanks to future Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. 1FSV Mainz 05 finished a creditable 11th in their first season, and also qualified for Europe's second major club prize under the Fair Play rule. After quickly bouncing back from relegation, the club enjoyed Bundesliga football throughout the following decade. You can buy or sell 1FSV Mainz 05 tickets on StubHub now.
Following an incredible start to the 2010-11 season, where they won a record-equalling seven matches on the trot, 1FSV Mainz 05 achieved their highest ever finish, fifth place. That same year they moved from the historic Bruchwegstadion, their home since 1928, to the Opal Arena, a brand-new multi-purpose stadium with a capacity of just over 34,000. The club have since qualified for the Europa League several times, reaching the group stage in 2016, where they earned impressive draws against one-time European giants Anderlecht and Saint-Etienne, and twice beat Azerbaijan side Gabala. With management from their former midfielder Sandro Schwarz and captained by local boy Stefan Bell, 1FSV Mainz 05's 2018 line-up included German international Rene Adler, Frenchmen Moussa Niakhate, Gaetan Bussmann and Jean-Philippe Mateta, as well as the Bundesliga's shortest player, Argentinian Pablo de Blasis. 1FSV Mainz 05 tickets are on offer for both their home games and their away fixtures on StubHub, with their matches against local rivals FC Kaiserslautern and Eintracht Frankfurt often the most in-demand.
