The Damned Biography - Goth Punk Greats Back on Tour

The group started when Ray Burns and Chris Miller met while working backstage at Croydon Fairfield Halls. The pair then found drummer Rat Scabies and guitarist Brian James, but a singer was required for a complete line up. The audition for front man was extended to both Dave Vanian as well as the future Sex Pistols bassist and vocalist Sid Vicious, but because the latter never turned up, Vanian was awarded the role by default!

The group went on to perform their second ever gig supporting the Sex Pistols and released the first ever UK punk single 'New Rose' in 1976, going on to tour the US with their powerfully evocative sound. Over the '80s the group reinvented their music to position themselves at the front of the growing goth rock scene.
