The Bluetones are a British indie rock band formed in 1993 that became popular at the end of the Britpop movement. They scored 13 top 40 singles and three top 10 albums, earning them a respected place in British musical history. Over the years they have disbanded and then reunited several times, ultimately continuing to tour successfully.

The Bluetones currently plan to play dates in Glasgow, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Manchester, Portsmouth, Birmingham, and Bristol in the UK. Other dates in the UK are being planned as well.

Trivia

The Bluetones were originally known as The Bottlegarden. They formed in Hounslow, Greater London, in the early 90's. The group experienced early success and were widely considered an important voice on the indie music scene. The band endured the peaks and valleys of the music business for nearly two decades until they called it quits in 2011 after conducting a farewell tour that ended in Osaka, Japan. Later, much to the delight of their hardcore fans, they reconsidered their decision and reunited for a new tour.

Band

The group's members include Mark Morriss, lead singer, Adam Devlin, guitarist, Scott Morriss, bassist, and Eds Chesters, drummer. Richard Payne was a part of the band for a few years and played keyboards for them between 1998 and 2002. Considered one of the last Britpop bands, they were heavily influenced by British pop groups of the 60s and 70s, particularly the Beatles. The group received good reviews in the British press but never really enjoyed great popularity in the United States.

Breakthrough

The group first attracted popular notice when they released two singles, "Are You Blue or Are You Blind?," and "Bluetonic." They received positive reviews, and the excitement about the band grew when they released a third single, "Slight Return," before their first album, Expected to Fly, debuted. They were heralded as the next big thing in British popular music and, as a result, flirted with superstardom.

Hit Albums

Expected to Fly hit the British charts at number one. They had continued success with Return to the Last Chance Saloon, Science and Nature, and Luxembourg. In 2002, they released The Singles, which was, not surprisingly, a collection of singles. The Guardian reviewed their album Luxembourg and said, "You can't fault their ever-lush harmonies, though, or the garage-band scrappiness that gives 'Here It Comes Again' its appeal."

Stage Experience

The Bluetones put on a fabulous rock show, complete with vigorous drumming, excellent guitar work, and vocals that range from sincere to rollicking. The band members still elicit oohs and ahs from adoring fans after all these years at the forefront of the British music scene. The band's stage style, like their music, is easily accessible, which makes for a fun rock 'n' roll evening.
