An alternative Britpop favourite

Born in Liverpool in 1970 but raised in the Welsh town of Connah's Quay, Paul Draper first began performing in the short-lived band Grind while studying at college. However, he rose to fame as the lead vocalist and guitarist in Mansun, the alternative Britpop outfit who reached number one in 1997 with their debut album, "Attack of the Grey Lantern". Following 1998's ambitious concept album "Six", 2000's more straight-forward "Little Kix" and 2004 compilation "Kleptomania", the group disbanded and Draper moved behind the scenes, producing and writing tracks for the likes of Skunk Anansie's Skin, Welsh rock trio The Joy Formidable and multi-instrumentalist The Anchoress. Having performed Mansun's signature hit "Wide Open Space" at the closing of the London Astoria in 2009, Draper then returned to the spotlight properly in 2016 with the EPs "One" and "Two", and a year later reached the UK Top 20 with his first full-length solo effort, "Spooky Action". Fan favourites past and present

Having largely shied away from the spotlight since Mansun's split in the mid-00s, Paul Draper appeared keen to make up for lost time on his return to the live stage in the mid-10s. The singer/guitarist has hit the road on numerous tours, showcasing all the highlights from his debut album, including the singles "Jealousy Is A Powerful Emotion" and "Things People Want". But unlike many Britpop veterans, Draper isn't afraid to revisit his former glories either. In 2018, he launched a tour in which each show would be split into two parts - one featuring his solo material and the other featuring him performing Mansun's chart-topping first album, "Attack of the Grey Lantern", in its entirety. Other tours have also seen Draper delivering renditions of Mansun favourites such as "I Can Only Disappoint U", "Being a Girl" and "Legacy".
