Nile Rodgers & Chic: disco legends announce huge 2018 UK tour

Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll and Songwriters Hall of Famer Nile Rodgers shot to fame with Chic in the 1970s. Together with songwriting partner and bassist Bernard Evans, Rodgers wrote and performed some of the era's grooviest numbers – including "Le Freak", "I Want Your Love" and "Good Times" – with Chic going on to become one of the most successful groups of the disco scene. Away from Chic, Rodgers has garnered a reputation as one of the finest artists and prolific producers of his generation – working alongside the likes of David Bowie, Madonna, Duran Duran, Jeff Beck, Depeche Mode and the B52's – and has released three solo albums of his own, including 1983's critically-acclaimed Adventures in the Land of the Good Groove.

Nile Rodgers & Chic: one of the most successful disco groups of all-time

While they were still putting their troupe together in 1977, Chic released single "Dance, Dance, Dance" - a top ten hit that, against even their own expectations, made the group one of the hottest new acts in disco. Chic scrambled to put the final touches to their lineup and hastily released their self-titled debut album, which spawned a minor follow-up hit, "Everybody Dance," in early 1978.

Lead singer Norma Jean Wright (most famous for her successful nightclub song "Saturday")  was forced to leave the band in 1978 due to solo commitments, and was replaced by Alfa Anderson; who joined Luci Martin on vocals. Smash hit "Le Freak," the first single from sophomore album C'est Chic, propelled Chic to global stardom; spending five weeks on top of the US charts and selling over four-million copies. Follow-up "I Want Your Love" reached number seven, as C'est Chic went platinum in the US and gold in the UK.

Chic released another five albums in four years between 1979 and 1983, but the group did not record another studio album until 1992's Chic-Ism, with both Rodgers and Evans focusing on producing for other artists. The band have continued to tour and release live and compilation albums, and the group's first studio album in 23 years It's About Time was released in June 2015. Chic has been nominated for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a record 11 times, with the latest being in 2017.
