Natalie Imbruglia
Natalie Imbruglia: Australian singer-songwriter confirms UK tour for February 2018, including London, Manchester and Edinburgh
During her heyday in the late 90s and early 2000s Natalie Imbruglia was renowned for producing a series of consistently strong pop albums (think multi-platinum Left of the Middle; follow-up White Lilies Island; UK number one Counting Down the Days) and recording one of the catchiest, most-memorable singles of the 90s ("Torn"). Now – after five albums; record sales of 10 million; and over 20 years in the music business – the Aussie pop stalwart is still going strong.
Her hugely successful European acoustic tour in the spring of 2017 – to support fifth album Male – proved that Imbruglia is still a considerable draw for fans, while the reviews for 2009's Come To Life and Male (2015) were among some of the best of the singer's long and distinguished career.
A veteran of the tour bus, Natalie Imbruglia will hit the road again in spring next year to support her latest work. She will perform in eight cities across the UK in February 2018: London; Manchester; Edinburgh; Oxford; Bristol; Guildford; Liverpool and Glasgow – meaning pop fans up and down the country will have a chance to see Natalie Imbruglia live. Natalie Imbruglia: 90s icon still going strong
Leaving school at the age of 16 to pursue acting, Imbruglia was first famous in her native Austrlia after starring as Beth Brennan in the soap opera Neighbours. She moved to London in 1994, recorded a four-track demo CD (which included the track "Torn") and promptly signed a record deal with BMG. "Torn" – a cover of an Ednaswap song – went on to become her first international single in 1997.
It reached number two on the UK Singles Chart (selling more than a million copies), was number one on airplay around the world; and has gone on to become the most played song on Australian radio since 1990 – being played 300,500 times since 1998 (an average of 75 times a day). Imbruglia's debut album – Left of the Middle – was released in December 1997; selling 350,000 copies in the three weeks after release in the UK and being certified platinum. Overall, it has sold seven million copies worldwide and is the highest selling debut album by a pop/rock/alternative female artist.
Imbruglia's next album, White Lilies Island, in 2001, was named after where she lived beside the River Thames at Windsor, before 2005's Counting Down the Days became her first UK number one; propelled by the title single and "Shiver". 2009's Come to Life and 2015 follow-up Male received strong critical reviews, with Imbruglia announcing a UK tour in February 2018 – for which you can buy tickets at StubHub.
