Foy Vance Biography - Musician Releases The Wild Swan With Gingerbread Records
This aspiring musician spent his formative childhood years moving across the southern states of the US after his father, a pastor, took the family out there to work with the poorest churches in the Bible Belt. His musical education would be subsequently shaped by exposure to the sounds of blues, gospel and soul, before moving back to Northern Ireland and expanding his scope to include folk, rock and pop. Beginning his career with gigs across the UK and a residency in a Lanzarote bar, the tragic death of his father made him reassess and write more personal and truthful music.
Despite having enough material to fill multiple albums, it would be five years until he released a six track EP Live Sessions & the Birth of the Toilet, recorded in various bathroom stalls across the country and the result was a unique acoustic sound. Two more demo recordings, 'Gabriel and the Vagabond' and 'Homebird', were used in TV drama Grey's Anatomy, before he finally released debut album Hope in 2007. Soon, a dedicated following began to accumulate, and by 2012 he had performed at the BBC's Proms in the Park, along with supporting Ed Sheeran on his UK tour - duetting on track 'Kiss Me'. Second album Joy of Nothing proved equally popular in 2013, winning the Northern Ireland Music Prize and having joined Sheeran's own label, he delighted fans with third record The Wild Swan.
