More About Al Murray - Guiding Britain One Joke at a Time
Murray's background couldn't contrast more with the working class character he portrays. Educated at a private school and then at a prestigious Oxford college the comedian is a decedent of very noble line. Disliking the pretention of his education Murray found solace in comedy, joining the famous comedy group the Oxford Revue during his studies. Quickly realising his talent lay in making people laugh rather than academia, the comic quickly made connections by supporting Harry Hill on his nationwide tour.
After a few attempts to create a working comedy character, Murray created The Pub Landlord in 1994, and never looked back. The classically British, beer drinking, opinionated landlord was a hit with fans and critics alike, winning him nominations for the Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and winning in 1999. Now one voted as one of the country's finest comedians, the Guv regularly hosts chat and quiz shows such as the popular Dave programme Compete for the Meat. While the funnyman is now the proud owner of eight bestselling comedy DVDs and bestselling novels, his live appearances are where he really shines.
