Formed in the early 90s by producer RZA and the late Ol' Dirty Bastard as a collective of nine MCs, few could have predicted how much of an impact the Staten Island natives would have had on the music industry. Yet twenty-one years on from their debut full-length Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), the group have sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and bought a myriad of acts, known as Killa Bees, to prominence.
All talents in their own right, their debut was swiftly followed up not with a sophomore effort, but with the members kicking off a string of successful solo careers. RZA started the ball rolling with side project Gravediggaz, swiftly followed by Method Man's Tical and ODB's Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version.
Reuniting in 1997 for their second release, Wu-Tang Forever, the group proved their unique model of side projects was successful, as the album shot to the top of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. The early 2000s proved to further strengthen their mainstream break through, and 2000's The W saw singles chart success with perennial favourites 'Gravel Pit' and 'Protect Ya Neck (The Jump Off)'.
Tragedy struck in 2004 with the unexpected death of Ol' Dirty Bastard, and the group once again focused on their solo careers with a string of albums and a book being released. Now back on form with their much anticipated sixth studio album and a string of back catalogue of classics, including the legendary 'C.R.E.A.M.', there's never been a better time to witness this hip-hop tour de force live.
