The Puppini Sisters Biography - Bringing Retro Back
Inspired by cult animated comedy Les Triplettes de Belleville, singer Marcella Puppini put the group together in 2004 with Kate Mullins and Rosanna Schura. Misleadingly, the trio aren't actually sisters, but picked their moniker in homage to The Andrews Sisters, whose song 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy' they covered for their debut single in 2005. Rather than working the concert circuit, the threesome built their profile with a string of TV appearances, charming viewers of shows such as This Morning, Loose Women and Michael Buble's Christmas on American network NBC. However, their live appearances have marked the high points in their career, including an acclaimed set at Glastonbury in 2009 and an appearance at the Goodwood Vintage Festival. Meanwhile, their albums have displayed a progression and maturity in sound, starting with the jazzy Betcha Bottom Dollar in 2006 before moving on to the 1940s-themed The Rise and Fall of Ruby Woo the following year. With a Christmas-themed LP and Hollywood-themed record also in their discography, they've got enough material to take their gigs in any direction they wish.
