Band

Janeway and Phillips met when both were members of the Birmingham, Alabama soul music scene. The duo decided to work together in 2012. They quickly liked what they produced and began recruiting more members. The Broken Bones were soon rounded out with Browan Lollar on guitar, Andrew Lee on drums, keyboardist Al Gamble, Allen Branstetter on trumpet, and Ben Griner on trombone.

Unusually for a new band, St. Paul and the Broken Bones recorded an EP before ever playing live together. But that EP, Greetings from St. Paul and the Broken Bones, was enough to earn the attention of fans and record executives alike.

Breakthrough

The strength of the EP convinced record label Single Look Records to produce and release the Broken Bones' debut album. Single Look was partly founded by respected musicians Ben Tanner and John Paul White of the Alabama Shakes and The Civil Wars, respectively. Attention from musicians of this calibre grew industry interest in the Broken Bones' debut. Half the City was released in early 2014 to strong sales and reviews.

Hit Albums

Half the City hit #56 on the Billboard 200 chart and #3 on the chart for digital downloads on iTunes.
